What is a Mental Health Liaison?

They are someone who can complete the following qualifications.

  • Register for the liaison program via the respective Liaison Interest Form (link is below)

  • Be appointed by respective SORC registered/FSL affiliated student organization to serve as their mental health liaison

  • Complete training modules provided by the UCC

  • They would not serve as individual peer support or counseling, but as a resource for students to ask questions about how to find a therapist, access the UCC, and otherwise de-stigmatize mental health conversation within your organization.

  • Maintain active communication with the MHSC board (Vice President, in specific) about trainings. 

  • Attend workshops and activities when offered. 

  • Host mental health related events or meetings during the school year

Who is a Mental Health Student Coalition member?

A member can be any Pitt student that for some reason cannot complete all of the liaison qualifications. For example, if someone would like to join us but does not have an official group to sponsor them, they would be a member. Or if someone would like to join and is apart of a SORC or FSL group but cannot complete the trainings, they would be a member.

All liaisons and members are expected to uphold the following expectations

  • All members of the MHSC at Pitt will be expected to be professional, non-discriminatory, and respectful to their peers 

  • Members will be expected to uphold MHSC’s mission and represent the organization 

  • All members of the MHSC at Pitt will be expected to maintain the code of conduct set by the university

  • All members of the MHSC at Pitt will be expected to not divulge private information in any setting

  • All members of the MHSC at Pitt will be expected to present important information to those that need to know (i.e. thoughts of suicide and the need to report it to a professional)
